Do you offer Children's Classes?
Not specifically, we are an adult facility with an adult curriculum. However, we do accept some young adults under 18 of at least high school age who need to put together a portfolio for admission to art schools or who show marked interest in drawing or painting. Young adults under 18 must demonstrate focus and discipline in order to attend an adult class and are accepted on a case by case basis. Acceptance is based on a review of the student's work to date.
When was the school founded?
The school opened in June of 2002.
How many instructors are there?
There are three instructors, Marc Massaro teaches drawing, oil & acrylic painting and sculpture; Jean Galli teaches acrylic and colored pencil painting; Jody Lynn teaches watercolor painting. Other visiting instructors teach faux finish, beading, jewelry making, cartooning, calligraphy and creative writing at different times of the year. ·
Will I get individual instruction in a group class?
Absolutely, the instructor spends time with each student giving advice, guidance or demonstration of various techniques.
Do you offer private instruction?
No, private instruction puts an undue amount of pressure on the student without any of the benefits from a group situation.
I just want to paint, why do I need a drawing class?
All artwork, architecture, clothing, jewelry, animation and sculpture starts with a drawing. The drawing is the genesis of the idea and the place to plan and troubleshoot: size, scope, angle, perspective, color, style, and format before moving on to the final choice of medium. ·
Why should I take the color theory class?
Color theory answers the questions of how do I make this color darker, lighter, brighter, which colors go well together, how come some colors don't look right together, what does translucent and opaque have to do with my paints, what do these paint names mean? And many more questions are answered. ·
What if I missed the start of the course? Can I still register?
Late registration is always available. The time missed can be made up by arrangement with the instructor or the course can be prorated.
What if I have to drop out of a course?
If the course has not begun then a full refund will be made or a credit toward a future course can be made..
What if I have to drop out after the course has begun?
The student must notify the Branford Art Studio on or before Friday of the second week of classes in order to receive a refund of tuition less the non-refundable Program Fee of $25 or with the balance can be credited to a future course with this same notification timeframe.
Where do I get supplies?
Most of the major art stores (AC Moore or Michaels) either in CT or online (Art Supply Warehouse, Cheap Joe's, Dick Blick) will have everything you need. Materials lists are available for all courses and Director Marc Massaro is always available if you have questions about what you need to purchase for a course.
What is the Cancellation Policy of Branford Art Studio?
Students will be notified and full tuition will be refunded if a course is cancelled, or students may request a credit toward another course.The decision to cancel a course due to insufficient enrollment is the decision of the instructor. Students will be notified in advance in the event of a course cancellation.
What is your Refund Policy?
Students withdrawing from a course before it begins will receive a tuition refund in full. Students withdrawing from a course after the first session will be refunded tuition less a $25 registration fee. Students withdrawing beyond the first session will only receive a pro-rated tuition credit. The credit will be less the tuition of the total of sessions that have occurred. Withdrawal must be verified between instructor and student.
What if I want to register for a class late?
Students who register after the starting date must pay full tuition. Tuitions are not pro-rated.
What is the objective of Branford Art Studio?
The objective of the Branford Art Studio is to provide traditional, structured training paired with current technology.The student gains a strong foundation to build and expand his or her artistic expression.
Is there any age limit to take courses in the school?
Yes, the Branford Art Studio is an adult curriculum. All students must be 18 years or older to participate.
Are there any special courses offered for high school students?
Yes, a special program is available for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in preparing a portfolio for college. Please contact Marc Anthony Massaro (203) 488-2787 for more information.
Is Branford Art Studio handicapped accessible?
Yes and No. BAS is situated on the ground floor making access to the building relatively easy. However, our bathrooms are not well equipped to accommodate a wheelchair. We are certainly eager to accommodate your needs as best we can. If you would like to take classes but need assistance please call the studio for further information.
Can I smoke?
The facility is a smoke-free air-conditioned environment with ample work space for each student. There are receptacles provided outside the building for your convenience. Please do not leave butts on the ground.
Does BAS accept credit cards?
BAS accepts cash, checks and accepts MasterCard/Visa.
